The hype wears Prada: Sequel goes viral before its release thanks to nostalgia

“It’s like seeing the goddesses return to Mount Olympus.” With this metaphor, a Mexican Twitter user remarked on photographs of Anne Hathaway, Meryl Streep and Emily Blunt taken during the filming of The Devil Wears Prada 2 in New York. The three actresses reprise the roles of Andy Sachs, Miranda Priestly and Emily Charlton, respectively. Social media has been flooded with hundreds of messages yearning for the release of the sequel to a movie that became a phenomenon exactly two decades ago. Almost a year before its release, scheduled for May 2026, the most nostalgic fans are rekindling memories of the story that explored the ups and downs of the fashion industry. They are doing so by posting viral videos in which they comment on the looks seen on the streets of Manhattan, possible plots, or how the film’s protagonists have physically changed.

Actor, director, and producer John Krasinski, 45, has been named the new “Sexiest Man Alive” by People magazine, an honor the publication has bestowed annually since 1985. “Just immediate blackout, actually. Zero thoughts,” Krasinski admitted to the renowned magazine. “Other than maybe I’m being punked. That’s not how I wake up, thinking, ‘Is this the day that I’ll be asked to be Sexiest Man Alive?’ And yet it was the day you guys did it. You guys have really raised the bar for me,” joked Krasinski, who appears on the magazine’s front cover.

At the beginning, Beverly Hills was countryside. Well, maybe not from the very beginning: 100 years ago, Los Angeles’s most exclusive and famous neighborhood was the site of a hotel that shared its name and little else. But then, the ever-savvy media magnate William Randolph Hearst (who inspired Orson Welles’s film Citizen Kane) and his partner, actress Marion Davis, saw an opportunity in those desert hills, located within spitting distance of Hollywood. They bought more than seven acres, on which they built a home that was first known as the Hearst Estate and today, as the Beverly Estate. The magnificent mansion was designed by architect Gordon Kaufmann in the Spanish style (a favorite in this area), with patios, tiled fountains, stone balustrades and a dining room ceiling painted by John Smeraldi, who also did work on New York’s Grand Central Station.
