Emma Coronel and Rafael Amaya to produce series on El Chapo Guzmán

Emma Coronel and actor Rafael Amaya have announced that they will produce a bilingual series about Joaquín El Chapo Guzmán, which will tell the story from the perspective of the drug lord’s wife. Few details are known so far, but Amaya will also portray the infamous leader of the Sinaloa Cartel.

Mexico intensifies seizure of synthetic drugs with raids in Sinaloa, Sonora and Guerrero

The Mexican government has dealt another blow to drug trafficking. In separate operations across three states—Sinaloa, Sonora, and Guerrero—authorities reported the seizure of more than 41,000 liters and 12 tons of chemicals to be used in drug production. The announcement includes the dismantling of a clandestine laboratory in Guerrero and 11 other methamphetamine production sites in Sonora. In Sonora, between the towns of Culiacán and Mexicali, a vehicle containing 212 kilograms of methamphetamine was seized by the Army and the National Guard. Mexico’s efforts to combat drug trafficking have intensified, coinciding with increased pressure from the United States in recent weeks for more results in the fight against drug cartels.

El Chapo Guzmán is alone. The Sinaloa Cartel leader has been locked up in the maximum security prison in Florence, Colorado, for four years. This week he asked Judge Brian Cogan for permission to be visited in prison by Emma Coronel and his two minor daughters. In a handwritten letter, the 66-year-old drug trafficker asked the judge to consider the request once his wife is released on parole on September 13. The influencer and former beauty queen, Guzmán’s third wife, was granted house arrest last June and has been in a Los Angeles residence since then, preparing for her return to freedom. “She will be able to travel anywhere in the country. From that date forward she will be on probation,” says El Chapo.
