Debuting in early June on Netflix, the movie Under Paris tells the story of a marine scientist, Sophie (played by the French-Argentinian actress Bérénice Bejo), who loses her entire crew when the shark they are studying, named Lilith, suddenly slaughters them. Years later, the scientist is living in Paris and trying to put that traumatic event behind her, only to have the past come knocking when the chip that has been implanted in Lilith is detected in the river that runs through the French capital — the odds of an ocean-dwelling shark swimming in fresh water be damned. From that moment on, Sophie begins a race against time to hunt down the shark and prevent further carnage from taking place during the 2024 Olympic swimming competition in the Seine.

The first screening of Megalopolis at Universal’s CityWalk IMAX theater in Los Angeles ended with a standing ovation from 300 guests. Octogenarian filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola had finally brought his 40-year-old dream to the big screen. Coppola began writing the script while making Apocalypse Now in 1979. However, there have been no other screenings, leaving many people wondering about its global release due to financial challenges. Coppola has spent $120 million of his own money to make the film, but has struggled to find a studio willing to pony up $100 million for distribution. Making it more difficult, his most recent film, Twixt, only earned $1.3 million in 2012.

During the last few years, the Golden Globes faced criticism for the lack of ethnic diversity among the members of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA), the group that founded and produced the awards ceremony. In 2021, a boycott led by media companies, actors and other creatives, caused the ceremony to be held privately and without a television broadcast. Although the 2022 ceremony seemed a return to normalcy, the HFPA eventually disbanded, and was purchased by Dick Clark Productions and Eldridge Industries, in turn owned by the billionaire Todd Boehly, who now are the organizers of the event.

Human remains found in Los Angeles mountains belong to Julian Sands

The human remains found by mountaineers on June 24 on Mount Baldy, north of Los Angeles, belong to Julian Sands, the 65-year-old British actor who went missing in the same area last January, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department has confirmed.
